About the Vancouver District Labour Council
The Vancouver and District Labour Council (VDLC) is your local labour organization, representing close to 70,000 unionized workers in the Greater Vancouver Area. Founded in 1889, the VDLC is the one of the oldest labour organizations in Canada and the second largest labour council in Canada.

Labour councils exist across Canada and are composed of the locals of national unions affiliated to the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC). They are the voice and organization of the labour movement at the community level – working for the betterment of all community members, unionized or not. You might see your local labour council assisting fellow unions on strike, participating in national action campaigns, working on elections, developing international solidarity links in the city, or working on social justice issues such as housing and poverty.
You will see the VDLC out at many events and campaigns around the city – at Living Wage campaign activities, demonstrations against poverty, labour history events, on picket lines and talking to elected representatives to ensure the voice of workers in our city is heard at all levels.
